What's New?

CoughDrop AAC is a flexible, cloud-based augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) platform designed to support individuals with complex communication needs. The release notes page provides detailed updates on new features, enhancements, bug fixes, and performance improvements across the CoughDrop ecosystem. CoughDrop Legacy 1.1 Release Notes

This release will fix major issues, and improve reliability for CoughDrop web and mobile applications.

Major Fixes

  • Resolved remaining in-app payment issues

  • Resolved issues with direct contact to ZenDesk by automated system e-mails

  • Reduces delays (“lagging”) when loading icons and voices

  • Reduces errors when logging in as an administrator

Reliability Improvements

  • Increased connection speeds to all CoughDrop applications

  • Allow for automatic “scaling” during peak app usage, reducing crashes and unexpected downtime

  • Various security enhancements are included in this release

Known Issues

  • Purchases made in the Apple App Store are not reflected in the app.

    • Workarounds available: encourage users to make all purchases in the application, and not from the app store. Manual intervention is required by CoughDrop staff at this time.

  • Some voices will not load in the Android mobile app.

  • Android mobile app does not sync, and must be connected to the internet.

  • Users are unable to open or play YouTube links from within CoughDrop (Windows and Chromebooks), as well as on other platforms and devices. The issue is not isolated to a single environment and affects both the web and app versions.

  • Some users have reported that they are unable to access their premium boards in CoughDrop AAC, despite having an active subscription. This issue appears to affect a subset of accounts where board access permissions are not syncing correctly with the user's subscription status.

    • Workarounds available: In the meantime, users experiencing this problem can contact support for temporary access or assistance.

CoughDrop Legacy 1.2.3 Release Notes 06/13/2025

This release includes major system updates and reliability improvements for both web and mobile versions of CoughDrop AAC.

Major Fixes

  • Resolved remaining in-app payment issues

  • Reduced delays when loading icons and voices

  • Reduced errors when logging in as an administrator

  • Resolved multiple scenarios where user data did not update properly when modifying boards, icons, and voice settings

  • Addressed urgent infrastructure upgrade requirements and updated CoughDrop to the latest versions of all core technologies

  • System notification emails now forward properly to Zendesk for streamlined support

    Patch Deployed: June 15, 2025
    Fixed an issue where newly added board icons were saving in the wrong order following a recent upgrade.

  • Version 1.2.2
    Patch Deployed: June 15, 2025
    Resolved a board save failure caused by a stray debugger statement left in the code.

  • Version 1.2.3
    Patch Deployed: June 16, 2025
    Fixed a bug where flash alert messages (e.g., payment success, payment failure, "already on your home board," etc.) were displaying as blank.

Reliability Improvements

  • Increased connection speeds across all CoughDrop platforms

  • Improved infrastructure allows the system to scale based on peak and low usage, improving performance and lowering overhead costs

  • Numerous security enhancements implemented

  • Faster response times to issues now possible via modernized infrastructure

  • Compatibility and compliance risks reduced with a complete overhaul of the underlying tech stack (with more improvements on the way)

Known Issues

  • Apple App Store Purchases Not Reflected in App
    Estimated Resolution: 6/24/2025
    Purchases made through the Apple App Store do not currently sync to the app.
    Workaround: Encourage users to make purchases directly within the app. Manual intervention by CoughDrop staff is required.

  • Android App Voice Loading Issues
    Estimated Resolution: 7/8/2025
    Some voices may not load correctly in the Android mobile app.

  • Android App Sync Requirement
    Estimated Resolution: 7/22/2025
    Android mobile app must remain connected to the internet to sync. Offline syncing is currently unavailable.

  • YouTube Links Not Opening
    Users are unable to open or play YouTube links from within CoughDrop on Windows, Chromebooks, and some other devices.

  • Premium Boards Access Issue
    Some users with active subscriptions report being unable to access their premium boards due to syncing issues with subscription permissions.
    Workaround: Users can contact support for temporary access or assistance while a permanent fix is developed.

CoughDrop Legacy 1.2.4 Release Notes 06/25/2025

This release focuses on customer-impacting bug fixes, improved reliability, and enhanced security. It also includes an update to the iOS mobile app.

Major Fixes

  • Fixed an issue causing the iOS app to crash on some Apple devices.

  • Resolved a bug that caused users to lose access to premium communication boards.

  • Corrected a settings issue preventing head tracking options from displaying.

  • Reduced the frequency of “503 Service Unavailable” errors.

  • (Tentative) Addressed a bug where all system messages were being sent to Zendesk.

CoughDrop iOS Mobile (v 2025.07.28) Release Notes 07/28/2025

This iOS release focuses on customer-impacting bug fixes, improved reliability, and enhanced security. It includes important updates specifically for the iOS mobile app.

Major Fixes

  • Fixed an issue causing premium voices to fail downloading on iPad while working on iPhone, resolving voice parody inconsistency across devices.

  • Resolved a bug preventing users from changing preferred language via the settings screen or shortcut.

  • Updated app version display to reflect the Cordova config.xml file for consistent versioning visibility.

CoughDrop Legacy 1.3 Release Notes 08/18/2025

This release restores key features, including PDF generation and board button links, and fixes issues with board sharing, linking, search, and email routing. It improves reliability through better logging, reduced background job load, and initial fixes to mobile app update behavior. Security enhancements are also included.

Major Fixes

  • Restores PDF generation features, namely the “Print Board” feature

  • Restores the ability to add YouTube and other links to a board button

  • Attempts to address an issue which alleviates the need for certain users to reinstall mobile apps after each update - this may take us a few tries.

  • Addresses an issue where copying, sharing, generating items (boards, etc) would cause the progress screen to freeze/hang.

  • Addresses an issue preventing board linking

  • Addresses an issue where searching for boards would only show publicly available boards

  • Addresses an issue where all system e-mails are being sent to zendesk.

Reliability Improvements:

  • Addresses an issue with small amounts of logging data being available in the cloud when opted in.

  • Improves on system response by reducing background job accumulation

  • This release contains security enhancements.

CoughDrop Legacy Android v2025.09.12/ iOS v2025.08.08 09/17/2025

This release addresses several critical issues with premium voice functionality, voice management, and language settings on iPad devices. It also fixes the Android splash screen and introduces a new script to improve versioning consistency across platforms. These changes improve stability, usability, and overall app performance.

Major Fixes

  • Resolves an issue causing problems with premium voice playback on iPad devices, where voices would play at a slow rate and sound distorted after the first use.

  • Resolves an issue affecting the download of premium voices, including missing voices on iPad devices.

  • Resolves an issue preventing users from deleting previously downloaded voices.

  • Resolves an issue with preferred language settings that prevented users from changing the language either from the preferences screen or via shortcuts.

  • Fixes the splash screen display on Android devices.

  • Fixes the script used to extract missing files from JAR archives.

Minor Improvements:

  • Adds a script to update the versioning format for the mobile app (Android and iOS)

CoughDrop Legacy Android v2025.09.29/ iOS v2025.09.29 09/29/2025

This release addresses several critical issues with board functionality and embedded media access across platforms. It fixes the issue preventing the YouTube links embedded in the boards from opening the player for iOS and also fixes the issue preventing the YouTube links embedded in the boards from opening the player for Android. Additionally, this update resolves an issue causing the sync feature for boards to be stuck after nine boards for Android. These changes improve stability, usability, and overall app performance.
